St. Charles And The National Strategy Plan For Vocations

In November of 1995, the National Conference of Catholic Bishops (now the United States Conferance of Catholic Bishops unanimously approved a three year national strategy for vocations which they titled, " Future Full of Hope". The plan became effective January 1, 1996.

One of the goals of the strategy plan is to "encourage parish communities and their individual members to accept responsibility for encouraging and calling forth vocations" to the priesthood and religious life.

We at St. Charles not only accept this responsibility, but promote all activities toward that goal, especially those suggested by our Diocesan vocations office.

If you personally should be interested in knowing more about the Priesthood or Religious life, or if you know a person, please contact our Pastor, Fr. Steve Blum at 419-228-7635. You may also contact the Diocesan vocations office directly if you prefer, at 800-926-8277.

The Serra Club of Lima Deanery

A number of St. Charles parishioners are members of the The Serra Club of Lima Deanery. This is an organization of Catholic men and women who actively encourage young people to consider the Priesthood, the Deaconate, or the vowed Religious Life.

Serran members meet twice monthly (except during the summer)at Lima Central Catholic High School for a Mass and evening dinner, followed by an interesting program. In addition to the Serra Club of Lima Deanery, there are five other Serra clubs in the Diocese, with another club in the formation process. Our Bishops have strongly supported the vocation activities of the Serra clubs, who work closely with the Diocesan Vocation office.

The Serra Club draws it's membership from the entire Lima Deanery which includes the counties of Allen, Putnam and Van Wert. The Club provides vocation information to the 21 parishes in the Deanery. They also give support to our Seminarians, Priests and Religious as well as deanery Catholic youth groups.

The Serra Club of the Lima Deanery was founded in 1965 with 35 members. It now has about 74 members. If you would be interested in knowing more about the activities of the Serra Club you may contact:
